No, I have had no hands-on experience with that issue on either Excursion I've owned. I do know that front end caster settings play a big part of it. If the caster angle is too upright, steering can be "skittish" ... will change directions very easily. If the caster angle is laid back some, the weight of the vehicle alone will return the front wheels to straight ahead.

I have 2001 Excursion that has a seriuos wandering / steering returnability problem. I pulled a trailer over 200 miles yesterday and at some points it was down right frightening. I have replaced the ball joints, steering stabilizer, sway bar bushings, and adjusted the steering gear box. AND NO CHANGE!

I found the following service bulletin from ford:

http://www.ford-trucks.com/tsb/fulltext/show_article.php?tsb=01-3-2

It seems to address the exact steering returnability problem that i experience, but I'm not sure if that will have an affect on the wandering problem..

Any suggestions ?? thanks?

Been there, done that, fixed that, no change till I got the LRR.

I was thinking of switching to the F250 springs for more load capacity. Would the Landyot RR that I have be any good there and will it even be installable there?

By "any good there," I assume you're asking if they would still provide a benefit. Naturally, I'm going to say, "Yes!" However, I have heard of a few F250 owners who installed my radius-rods on their pick-ups with positive results. Will they fit? Go look at the application chart that was in the info-pack I sent you. They'll fit with any Ford OEM leaf springs.

Not really. From what I have heard of you, you would only say "yes" if you have had positive results that you know of. Otherwise you would be telling me "I don't know for sure" or "No"

aklim -- You saw right through me on that one. OK, I confess that I do know of a few F250 owners who like what the radius-rods have done for their trucks. Still, I prefer to limit these things to Excursions only. I did make one set for buddy's F350 dually a few years back, and everytime he sees me, he comments that the rods are still working great. BTW, that will be the one and only set I ever build for a dually.

Hey, y'all! Can we continue anyfurther discussion about radius-rods in the following thread?

This other thread is where a LOt of folks have posted their testimonies. Thanks!

I finally got to drive my 2004 LTD 4wd PSD X with the Landyot Radius Rods installed. Did it make a difference? NIGHT AND DAY...
When I purchased my truck with 34,000 miles, it didn't drive exactly like a car. I can't say that it was bad, just uncomfortable in that it needed this constant "little" steering corrections. You know, the ones that just don't let you steer one-handed without fatiguing the wrist. I maintain all my vehicles to the letter of the book and before complaining, I brought it to my local dealer who changed the tierod ends, balanced the tires and did an alignment, everything to factory specs. Did it change anything? NO. I took the diesel and truck tech on the road with me, and as he put it "This truck is riding nice and straight. However these are heavy vehicles and they tend to follow the road". Searching the net, I googled and found the Landyot Rods. I already had the factory sway bars and steering damper. While it made sense I was sceptical at to what degree it would alter the trucks driving behaviour. But hey, the cost was very reasonable, it didn't seem that hard to put them on, and it didn't involve any major suspension modification. I installed them "analy precise", and made sure my axle measurements were perfect.
It is like a new vehicle. Precision tracking with one finger steering, effortless braking in line. Drives like a car. I would have never thought the effect was THAT profound. All I can say is THANK YOU!!! This is what the Excursion should have had from the factory. It made a great vehicle FANTASTIC...and NO, I have no financial relationship with Mike

[quote] I would like to buy your radius rods. I have a diesel Excursion 2001 two wheel drive that pulls a 24 foot enclosed race car trailer that is out of control with any wind at all.

Let me know what I have to do.
